Charley and the Chocolate Factory - starring Johnny Depp - director Tim Burton

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Mmmm...Johnny...... Woops! Sorry, got a little distracted there;-) Actually, I found it hard to get worked up over him in this movie what with the freaky make up and such. Now, it's gotta be difficult to follow Gene Wilder's performance in the original, as Mr. Depp admitted himself. But it should come as no surprise that he was up to the task. He managed to keep the original character intact, while adding some of his own quirkiness to the part.

It's tricky to review a remake of a movie - especially when it's on my all-time childhood favorites! All I can say it that I enjoyed it. I had been looking forward to the film for months, and was in the theatre Friday afternoon for the opening. It was a blast! The theatre was full of kids talking and laughing and excited about the movie. I felt like a kid myself when the lights dimmed after the previews. There is one scene that was left out of the remake that really bothered me, but other than that it followed the original to my liking. The Oompa Loompas got a serious upgrade, and you learn the history of how Wonka found them. Neat stuff! ~ Tracy 12/23/05
