I'll get right to the point, I amd truly confused over the hype of this movie. It's not a great film. The acting is pretty good, but everything else about this movie sucks in my opinion. There are way too many subplots going to have any real empathy for any character. It is a movie of almost constant emotional extremes which makes them utterly worthless. It's like back in the 50s when there was a murder people freaked out. Now, it happens so often it rarely even effects you. That is only one of the problems with this movie.

Now if you haven't seen the movie yet, time to stop reading. I'm going to go off on a few specifics. The Sandra Bullack character. PLEASE. The locksmith scene. Terrible, just terrible. And the "close" of her character? This sappy crappy realization that her maid is her best fucking friend? That is so stupid I could barely believe I was actually wathcing it.

Oh, and how about the store owner guy? I mean the whole time he is so narrow minded and pissed off I couldn't buy it for a second. And then when he goes to kill the hispanic guy, you're gonna tell me he really would shoot and kill this guy in front of his cute little 4 year old daughter? Riiiiiiight. Then what was the last scene he was in? It's like he found his "happy place" or something. Totally confused.

Don't EVEN get me started on the cooincidence crap with the two cops. Or the second to worst scene in the whole movie after the maid bonding scene. When the woman is dangling in her car after a horrible crash and is screaming at the cop to stay away? Why? Because he felt her up? No way. Do you think for one second that you react that way? NOBODY would. I mean if the guy had brutally raped her or tortured her, I could maybe see it. But I think I would be just a bit more afraid of being trapped in a car after an accident then the (totally unrealistic fear) of being felt up.

OK, I'll stop now. As usual, I'm ripping this movie more than I probably should. But if you haven't figured out my reviews so far, they are very reactionary. If this movie wasn't nominated for best picture this review would have only been two paragraphs, lol. ~ Tracy 3/3/06
