Good Night, and Good Luck - starring David Strathairn - director George Clooney

Good Night, and Good Luck

This one is a thinker movie, and a good one at that. No violence, no nudity, heck I don't think there was even one profanity spoken in the movie. What a wonderful change! It was filmed in black and white which was a wise choice. Some of the camera angles were weird at times, but other than that it seemed to work.

The movie, of course, is based on a true story. And the story was new to me. I wasn't around when the whole communism thing was going down. I learned a ton from this movie about a crucial time in the history of this country. Director Clooney and writer Grant Heslov did an excellent job of explaining the story in a was that was easy to follow for the clueless viewers such as myself.

The acting was great. I'll only touch on a few, since everyone gave a great performance and I don't want to ramble on forever. Patricia Clarkson Robert Downey Jr. were solid in their supporting roles, the chemistry between them was absolutely perfect for this movie. Side Note: It was very, very cool to see Mr. Downey back in action! The guy has been through hell and back and it's wonderful to know that he made it back in one piece. David Strathairn was excellent. His performance from beginning to end was flawless. There are very subtle nuances that bring this stoic character to life with just a single glance.

This is a great film and I encourage everyone to see it. At the end of the movie I wanted to clap and cheer because I was so moved by the words of Mr. Murrow. I wish I could comment on them, but I don't want to spoil it for you. ~ Tracy 1/22/06
